This was the perfect weekend getaway trip. My mom and I spent the weekend in Chicago shopping and spending some quality time together. It seems that both of our lives are in such fast pace anymore that we never get to talk and sit down for some quality time together. This weekend was full of lots of popping in and out of stores looking for amazing deals and eating loads of good food. I am sharing with you some of the high lights of our trip!

We took the train for the first time! I have never ridden the train anywhere before besides in downtown Chicago to another part of Chicago; this was our first long trip on the train. We were able to see many different parts of Iowa and Illinois that we don't get to see on a normal basis. The train also had much more leg room than airplanes, which was a nice change. My only warning is that you need to have plenty of time to travel as our train was TWO HOURS late! The train is notorious for being late so as long as you're laid back about your arrival you should be fine!

During our trip to Chicago we stayed at the Drake. This is a classic hotel in downtown Chicago that has many old Hollywood vibes to it. One of my favorite actresses of all time is Audrey Hepburn and I was so shocked to see that she has stayed here too! The Drake is a modern hotel that is left to look like hotels of the past. I loved all the decor and architecture that went into the design of it. I appreciate that it looks the same as it has always looked, but that it still has modern conveniences.

Many different places were decorated for Christmas still. I was delighted to see all of the Christmas decor in the store front windows and the decor that greeted us at the door of The Drake!

(Haha my face looks hilarious here!) This is our first night out to dinner. We went to one of my favorite restaurants The Cheesecake Factory. I was able to order plenty of carbs like this cheesy pasta. The sad part is we never have room left for actual cheesecake!! Sometimes I think it would be okay to have desert for dinner...

All bundled up and ready for lots of shopping! It was sooooo cold when we were there that we had to be this bundled up any time we left the hotel. There is nothing like Chicago cold! Some of my favorite stores to frequent during our visit was Express and Forever 21! Both stores had so many great deals that I couldn't pass up! The city was still beautiful and fun, but I would like to visit again when we aren't dashing from store to store trying to stay warm!

This trip was definitely a diet ruiner, but that is okay because you need a break every now and then! Our last night we ate at Harry Caray's! I ordered a delicious burger and fries and we enjoyed looking out at the city sites as we ate. I was so sad that our trip was coming to an end, but I hope that we can come back soon.
